The 31-year-old Nigerian was arrested on February 13 after he tried to buy a pair of pants with a fake $100 bill in Naif area.
An Indian salesman said the accused came to his cloth shop around 10pm on February 13. “He picked a pair of pants and paid $100. I touched the bill and knew it was fake.”
The salesman asked the accused to pay in dirhams.
“The defendant then said he only had that bill and rushed to walk out of the shop. But I followed him and sought people’s help to catch the man.”
He took the accused back inside the shop and called the police. The Criminal Evidence report showed that the four $100 bills seized from the accused were fake.
A police corporal, who went to the shop after the incident was reported, found the accused held back by the salesman and other people. “The salesman knew from his experience that the bill was fake and that the accused tried to run away after throwing down his wallet,” the officer said.
The officer quoted the accused as admitting that he paid fake $100 bill to the salesman. The police seized fake $400 from the accused. He alleged that he found it outside his place.
